Movie Research: Nope
What conventions of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have?
I enjoy color-coded characters, this helps the viewer better recognize a character from others. There was also a trope of death by looking up, which I find to have a perfect cut-off. Lastly, there is fear is the appropriate response. I would like for the character(s) in my project to have common sense, I don't like characters with a lack of common sense.
What conventions) of the genre did the movie have that you liked?
I enjoyed how it included an alien abduction, which plays into the trope people associate with aliens from another planet. It also transformed into a monster horror movie, a bait-and-switch to what it originally portrayed. Instead of many aliens, the saucer is the actual monster. In the end, it has a bittersweet ending. Even though many died, the Haywoods were able to kill the alien and get a picture of it before it died.
What conventions of the genre did the movie have that did not appeal to you, and are you considering not filming for your final task?
I do not like the aliens stealing cattle trope, it is way too bland and boring to be in recent year films. I also think it is corny to have siblings that seem to hate each other, but actually truly love each other. Although it is sweet and all, it gets frustrating with the tsundere type of aggression.
